Yimei Zheng is a multimedia artist working across time-based media such as video, 3D-rendered moving images, and audiovisual performance, as well as installations, prints, experimental sound, and text. Her work integrates found materials with digital processes and sensory elements, exploring how perception, memory, and emotion shape our experience of reality and its simulated counterparts.
Trained in photography and psychology, she approaches image-making with a sensitivity to framing, atmosphere, and the unseen layers of experience. This background informs her interdisciplinary practice, where the still image often expands into moving images, immersive spaces, and multisensory environments.
Extending on this approach, she investigates olfactory art, ephemeral materials, and immersive environments, creating works that evoke a state of suspended time. Through layered sensory experiences, her installations construct conditions where perception drifts across unstable temporalities, revealing the fragile entanglements of memory, material, and affect.
